(PCM) We are deeply saddened to learn that one of America’s most beloved TV mom’s, actress Florence Henderson has passed away at the age of 82. Henderson was best known for her role as Brady Bunch family matriarch Carol Brady on the long running ABC sitcom. The Brady Bunch aired from 1969 to 1974. Prior to her leading role on The Brady Bunch, Henderson was an established Broadway performer and was the very first female guest host of The Tonight Show.
Henderson died on November 24, just one day after being admitted to a Los Angeles area hospital. Her manager, Kayla Pressman, released a statement saying that Henderson’s death was “unexpected” and that she died as a result of “heart failure”. Her family claims that she was quite active in the days leading up to her death, however she was beginning to not feel well a few days before she was hospitalized.
The success of a show like The Brady Bunch was a true pop culture phenomenon. Despite only airing for six years, the show continues to be introduced to new generations of fans through both syndication and re-runs. Henderson went on to reprise her role as Carol Brady even after the initial series went off the air in various TV specials and holiday events.
Something about the series and the way that it explored a different variation of the typical family dynamic truly spoke to the heart and soul of the television audience. Everyone wanted a mom like Carol Brady and the amount of heart and soul put into the role by an actress like Henderson was nothing short of phenomenal. Her work in later years including guest appearances in series such as Ally McBeal, Happily Divorced, and 30 Rock, as well as, episodes of both The Love Boat and Fantasy Island. She went on to host a cooking show called Country Kitchen and took part in the celeb reality series Surreal Life back in 2006. More recently she completed on ABC’s Dancing With The Stars in 2010 and was just spotted in the audience of this season showing support for competitor Maureen McCormick, who played her TV daughter Marsha Brady on The Brady Bunch.
Our sincere condolences go out to Florence Henderson’s family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time. She will truly be remembered as one of the greats!
