Helen Mirren is in Modern Warfare in the First Trailer for Eye in the Sky

EyeintheSky(PCM) With the rapid advancement of technology and weaponry in modern warfare, the majority of battles are won by unmanned drone strikes, operated by people thousands of miles away from the action.

With this newfound separation from the battlefield, drone warfare has entered a whole new set of ethical dilemmas into war, and Helen Mirren has found herself right in the middle in the first trailer for Eye in the Sky.

Eye in the Sky stars Helen Mirren as Colonel Katherine Powell, a military officer based in the UK operating a top secret drone mission targeting terrorists in Kenya.

While determining whether to order a drone strike, Powell, using incredibly high-tech surveillance drones, discovers men with suicide vests and bombs inside the home of a target, escalating her mission from “capture” to “kill” in order to save countless innocent lives.

Just as American drone pilot Steve Watts (Aaron Paul) is about to pull the trigger, a nine-year-old child enters the kill-zone, starting an international dispute.

Struggling between the need to complete her mission, Watts’s refusal to shoot with the child within range, and the political chain of command, Powell finds herself in the middle of a tough ethical dilemma.

Eye in the Sky also stars Alan Rickman, Barkhad Abdi, Jeremy Northam, Iain Glen, and Phoebe Fox, and is directed by Gavin Hood (Tsotsi, Ender’s Game) and written by Guy Hibbert (Prime Suspect). Ged Doherty, Colin Firth, and David Lancaster serve as producers.

Eye in the Sky opens in theaters nationwide March 11, 2016.
