Deadline is reporting that a big screen adaptation of Heavy Rain is in the works.  The Playstation 3 game has sold over 1 million copies since its release in February, and has garned a lot of critical acclaim for its “interactive movie experience.”

Ironically, the games biggest selling point, the ability to change the story as you wish, will inherently be lost on the big screen.  However, other elements of the game, including interesting characters, a coherent and well thought-out plot, a mysterious and unique killer, and a dark and atmospheric setting, should come through on the silver screen.

As an avid fan of the game, I always wanted an adaptation into a movie, but I realize most of the experience will be lost.  However, depending on which plot line they choose to take, Heavy Rain could take a lot of chances, defying the formulaic Hollywood ending.  If it doesn’t however, you can still expect an entertaining mystery… even if nothing else comes across like it did in the game.

What do you think?  Will it work as a real movie?
